How do I join a wire?

Open the app, enter your callsign (any name you like), and either type a wire name or tap one from your recents or favorites. If someone shared a wire link, tap it and the app will open and offer to join. Open wires are instant — claimed/closed wires require the owner to approve your request first.

I can't hear anyone — what do I check?

Make sure your phone isn't silenced or on Do Not Disturb. Check that nobody on the wire is locally muted — a speaker icon next to their name means you've muted them locally, tap it to unmute. If audio still isn't coming through, try leaving and rejoining the wire. If the problem continues, email us with your iPhone model and iOS version.

The talk button does nothing when I press it

Over-N-Out needs microphone permission to transmit. If you denied it on first launch, go to Settings → Over-N-Out → Microphone and turn it on. Restart the app afterward.

How do I lock the PTT button open?

Hold the main PTT button. After about half a second you'll see a prompt — slide left and the button locks open at the edge of the screen. You're transmitting hands-free. Slide right to unlock. Works on the main wire button only, not Laser Beam.

How do I enable Wire Captions?

Tap the CC button in the top-right of any wire. The first time, your phone will ask for speech recognition permission — say yes. Captions appear on screen as people talk. Speech recognition runs entirely on your device — audio never leaves it.

What's Laser Beam?

On a busy wire, press and hold the scope icon next to a person's name to transmit directly to them. Everyone else hears nothing while you're beaming. Release to stop. It's one-way — if they want to reply privately, they hold their scope icon on you.

What are Reaction Tones?

Quick audio cues you can fire without keying up the mic — things like "10-4" or "Say again?" Tap the reaction button next to any participant. The tone plays for everyone on the wire instantly. Useful on a noisy channel when you just need to acknowledge.

How do I claim a wire?

You need an account (free to create — email/password or Sign in with Apple) and an active Personal subscription ($1.99/month). Once subscribed, you can claim any wire name that isn't already taken. First come, first served. Claimed wires can be set to open or closed, and you control who joins.

Someone requested access to my wire — what do I do?

You'll get a push notification (if enabled). Open the app, go to your wire's settings, and you'll see pending join requests. Approve or deny each one. If you approve, assign a role: Member (standard access), Admin (can manage others), Guest (limited), or Listener (receive only, can't transmit).

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to iPhone Settings → [Your Apple ID] → Subscriptions. Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple — we can't cancel or refund on your behalf. If you cancel, your wire claim stays active until the end of the billing period, then becomes available for others to claim.

Are callsigns verified?

No. Anyone can pick any callsign — it's like a handle on a CB radio. If you're running a team, agree on naming conventions ahead of time (e.g. "Mike-1," "Alpha-2"). Wire owners can remove participants who misrepresent themselves on closed wires.
